I spent considerable time researching all this models of own digital recorders on the market. I play tuba hence I needed the one that would handle this low frequencies and wanted the one that was versatile and self-explanatory to use with not a lot or proprietary such thinggs as memory sticks or batteries. Edirol makes use of standard AA electric batteries and SD ram cards. A patch is available to the OS that permits up to a new 32Gb card.
The Edirol R-09HR is simple to use, has all your options of formats I really could imagine needing and perfoms towards level I be expecting. I play throughout orchestras, bands and also smaller groups plus guitar so my own needs are diverse. The Edirol stands as long as all those and the quality is great. The various interfaces are well considered and gives people excellent choices including recording from outer devies (e. h. a cassette player) so it may be used for much more than a live performance recorder. These have an automatic gain feature if you record a meeting from a room with shifting sound levels as differing people speak and an upper level limiter for very loud options that prevents distortion.
The Edirol R-09HR appears as being a disk drive with a PC and it is simple to lug and drop information to and from your PC, since you may as well use the devie as an MP3 player. If you are a performer, the feature that permits playback to be between 50% and also 150% of registered speed makes learning a new lick or transcribing easier. All that with not a change of try to sell.
The small monitor speaker is just not great, but does as a minimum give you feedback to the belief that the device can be recording, etc.
The only other device that came near to this and may be better was $1, 600 knowning that elminated it by consideration.
The accessories are nice but it would have as well be reasonable to include some form of a case to shield the recorder outside the box. A integrated tripod connection can be been better than needing to buy the external case to acquire that.
Extending the range of the included remote command would make it easier to use the recorder looking at a group where you are a perfomer. The Split aspect which closes the contemporary file and starts a new one is great for multiple movements of an single composition for being recorded as diverse tracks for afterwards editing.
Bottom line is always that given all this competitors models within the same price range it would hard to find the one that combines ease of use, standard batteries, ram cards, etc. and prime quality recording capabilities that would be beter versus the Edirol. The "HR" model can be an upgrade from the previous and that Hd designation is a new welcome addition.

r-09hr user review
WHEN I purchased r-09hr as being a gift for my son that is a classically-trained violinist and also pianist. Up till now he has used a cassette tape centered Tascam to record his playing knowning that of his stringed quartet and his or her piano trio. I got this Edirol given it was smaller and also I thought it would easier for him to handle around.
What I got not prepared for was the extremely prime quality of recordings the device makes. My son was honestly amazed considering the clarity, frequency reply, lack of static, and open color of the sound recorded. This unit goes beyond an obvious CD resolution (16bit/44Khz) and also offers much more restrictive sampling (24 bit) and also higher sampling volume (96Khz). Does it really make a difference? Absolutely. Even my getting old ears could perceive the vibrancy and nuances of the higher sampling. The built-in microphones are excellent for a great portable unit and in addition they offer a legitimate tonal representation (neither for you to warm nor way too cold) for both the piano and with the violin. Those instruments are challenging to record but my kid soon found that placing the system about 6' away gave a fantastic balance between presence and deficiency of percussive pops or bow noise.

To take note on the higher volume sampling, we took the audio out from the Edirol and also fed it directly into your line-input of a decent stereo with level of quality speakers. We then compared an experienced recording of a new violin concerto towards same music recorded around the Edirol at 24bit/96Khz. This difference in lucidity, presence, audio aspect, and realism was amazing. The Edirol simply sounded much more realistic than does the CD.
Operating the Edirol is incredibly simple. My son located it intuitive and simple to use.
One gripe: the Edirol would not have a tripod support. What you really want to do is have the Edirol designed into a mike boom for positioning. Edirol sells a pricey leather holder which includes a mount - but we wouldn't get that. Quite, we made a lightweight holder with the two a mount for your camera tripod and also a mount for an audio microphone take a position. Works great but a great mount really should be part of this Edirol unit.
Unit comes with a 512Mb memory cartomancy with is adequate for trial functions. For serious reording, get a few 2Gb cards. Since my son are going to be using the most suitable mode for all of his recording, an 8Gb card are going to be necessary.
More r-09hr information.
Overall, I'm delighted with this particular purchase. It was delivered promptly by Amazon (as can be typical), it was in great condition, and it also performance was merely awesome. Very great purchase!

Roland Edirol R-09HR High-Resolution WAVE/MP3 Recorder
The Edirol by Roland is usually an excellent little performer, whether while using on-board stereo microphone and also external microphones. I bought it primarily to record videotaped interviews because the audio arrangement on usual camcorder is not perfect for this purpose. I record a 'clap' at the start and end of each interview and sync the Edirol audio up while using video in post output.
The audio playback quality is a great deal of better than the average music and the R-09HR will be light and small enough to do that role as nicely, so I ditched my music.
Note that SDHC cards ARE supported even though a quick read from the manual implies SD simply, it's buried in the footnote. No case, mic adaptor or tripod mount is included with the unit and the provided 'stand' is flimsy along with insecure.
I was concerned previous to purchase that Roland does not list specs for signal-to-noise and also dynamic range (basically similar thing). Usually this implies that the figures are embarrassing. Upon arrival I tested it myself. I shorted the mic and line inputs therefore and got the using noise floor figures:
Mic reviews (low gain setting) -72dB beneath clipping.
Mic input (high acquire setting) -67dB
Line reviews -76dB
Method: record 40 seconds of audio (16 tad / 48KHz WAV), shift to PC and evaluate by replaying in Sony Seem Forge. This eliminates the Edirol's analog playback circuitry, therefore the results would probably become worse if measured on the analog line output. This process includes any noise introduced from the PC but, as the WAV files were in no way decoded, this should not be a componant. I muted each track as well as the sig/noise was unmeasurable (better than 90dB) in order that would seem to concur that. If anyone from Roland would certainly care to comment I am going to be interested.
